Nature and scenery.

Here are some photos from our drive across the country over to western Norway a month ago.
We drove from Østfold (east) to Møre og Romsdal (west), and back again in two days. Spending most of the time driving, but we made a few stops along the way. On the way we got to see a lot of beautiful nature and scenery, and I hope you will enjoy these photos from my country :)

Vågå, og Jotunheimen i bakgrunnen tror jeg.

This is view over Vågå, and I think it is Jotunheim in the background.

Lom.

Lom.
The sign in the front is to the Stone Center of Lom, a large crystals and minerals museum and store. I spent 45 minutes in there and came out with hardly no money left, but with lots of wonderful crystals :)

A look at Lom wooden church from a distance. The wooden church was built in the late 1100s. There are beautiful viking style dragon head ornaments decorating the roof.

På vei over fjellet.

On the way across the mountains.

Vestlandet.

Driving into the deep green valleys of western Norway, this was the view that met us. I was completely in awe!

Hornindals vannet.

Hornindal Lake.

The water here was amazingly clear. Hornindal Lake is said to be inhabited by a sea serpent/monster, (like in Loch Ness), and sightings go back several houndred years. The last sighting actually was in August 2012 when a new photo of the Hornindal sea serpent hit the national news.
I must admit I looked for sea serpent, but did not catch a glimps of it :-D

Et ikke planlagt stopp underveis :)

A short stop here caused by unforeseen circumstances :)

On the way home we stoped by the Jostedal Glacier National park center.

Standing in the silence among these tall mountain I could clearly feel the energy of the trolls, elves and nature spirits known from the old Norwegian fairytales.

A small part of the Jostedal glacier is barely visible up there among the mountain tops and low clouds.

Jostedalsbreen.

Zooming in on the glacier.

The sun setting over Lake Mjøsa, and a few hours later we were back home.

Hope you liked the photos and the scenery :)

Dear Hilde, thank you so much for sharing the breathtaking, awesome nature of your country!!!! It left me breathless... I love breathtaking natural sceneries, and when they're combined with mountains and forests, I'm just in awe!
I love what you said about feeling "the energy of the trolls, elves and nature spirits known from the old Norwegian fairytales"... I can understand that so well! I wrote my Uni thesis about the legends (Sagen) of the forest-covered area of Bavaria where my Mom comes from... and they are full with wondrous, mysterious creatures that dwell in the forests, lakes and creeks... I love this kind of atmosphere!!!

PS: Some of the landscapes look very Alpine to me... very similar to the high mountain sceneries we have here in the Alps! There is a lake on the Italian-French border, called Lac du Mont-Cenis, at 2000 m... and it looks very "Norwegian" with its majestic atmosphere and landscape! I have many pictures of it on my blog :)

We don't have any mountains or great hills in Norfolk, but like you, we do have some nice countryside. I love mountains and Annuk is right, the first thing I thought of was the Alps. The nearest we are to mountains is in the Lake District and that is just too far to drive.

Thanks Yael, Anna, Datacreata and Anne :)

Anna:
I'm so glad to hear you understand what I meant with what I wrote, I really love that atmosphere too!!
And about similarity to the Alps; some of these high mountain scenery is actually called the Romsdal Alps I think :)

klem
